Andrea Cruz immigrated to the United States in 1999, bearing little more than her mother’s words: “No matter how little you have, a clean home matters.” With that maxim as her inspiration, Cruz launched The Art of Cleaning in 2011. Through the years, the Bloomington-based company’s impressive growth has attracted honors and recognition, including the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal’s Fast 50 list in 2025, ranking the metro area’s fastest-growing private companies.
Cruz attributes her success to a steadfast focus on three core values: company growth, community service and employee well-being. The Art of Cleaning expands into commercial market
John Babcock joins the new commercial cleaning division, AOC Building Solutions
Welcoming John to The Art of Cleaning family was pretty easy. His wife is Andrea Cruz, founder of the company.
John retired from his position as CEO of Plymouth-based portable restroom manufacturer Satellite Industries after 33 years to lead AOC Building Solutions as its new CEO.
AOC Building Solutions also recruited Israel Medina as its operations manager. He also brought five technicians with him, amounting to roughly 100 years of expert cleaning industry experience across the six team members.
AOC Building Solutions has recently secured contracts in commercial janitorial spaces, schools, churches, senior care homes, military facilities, medical facilities, residential communities, retail and construction. They are looking to focus on contracts with small to mid-sized enterprises with an on-site decision maker going forward.

Do you charge by the hour or by the job?
We do both. For services that are ongoing maintenence, we have an initial reset clean that is an hourly rate, and then once we have built a custom cleaning plan and schedule we set the rate at a fixed fee. For our services that are seasonal and on-demand projects, we will provide an accurate and transparent pricing that is based on an hourly rate for the size/scope of the work.
Are you insured, and who will be coming into my home?
Letting someone new into your sanctuary requires immense trust, and we don’t take that lightly. We are 100% fully insured for your absolute peace of mind. To keep your home feeling like a safe, familiar refuge, we prioritize sending the exact same friendly faces to your space every single time. Every member of our dedicated team is rigorously background-checked, thoroughly vetted, and trained to treat your home with the utmost reverence and care. We truly believe in our name, The Art of Cleaning. IMPORTANT: Be sure to check any potential cleaning companies to make sure they are fully insured. If not, you could be at risk for loss or injury should anything happen in your home. Don’t take a risk!
Do you bring your own cleaning supplies and equipment?
Yes, we take care of everything. Our team arrives fully equipped with professional-grade, high-performance supplies and top-tier vacuums. You don’t have to lift a finger, check your cupboards, or think about buying a single cleaning product ever again. We’ve got it completely covered. If you have specific needs for supplies and products, please consult us so we may accomodate you.
How do you handle house keys and security codes?
Your safety is our highest priority. All physical keys are kept in a secure, encrypted lockbox system at our main office, identified only by cross-referenced internal codes (never your name or address). Digital entry codes are locked safely inside our secure, private booking software and are only visible to your designated team on the exact day of your service.
Why is the Initial Clean Reset a larger investment than recurring care?
We completely understand that professional care is an investment. But in reality, you aren’t just paying for clean floors—you are buying back your weekends, your mental clarity, and your physical health. Coming home to a space that is already perfect eliminates that heavy, low-level anxiety of a mounting to-do list. It protects your mental well-being, gives you hours of free time back with your family, and meticulously maintains your property value. It isn’t just a luxury chore; it is an essential investment in your quality of life.
Why do you charge sales tax?
In the State of Minnesota, house cleaning services are taxable. If another company or individual cleaner quotes you without tax, they are not compliant with Minnesota Law and are not operating ethically. We do not include any hidden fees and you can rest assured you will
always be informed of the total price of service.
Will I always have the same crew?
We pride ourselves in a truly curated cleaning experience so the benefits of the same crew is as important you as it is to our core values. While we try to send the same crew each time, however, there will be times that an alternative crew will service your home due to illness, vacation or schedule conflicts.
Do I need to be home while you clean?
Only if you want to be! Most of our busy clients prefer to hand over the keys, share a garage code, or leave a lockbox lock so they can spend their day doing what they love. There is truly nothing quite like the feeling of exhaling as you step through the door at the end of a long day into a home that is already completely reset, sparkling, and ready for you to enjoy.
Do I need to clean or tidy up before you arrive?
Please, don’t feel any pressure to “clean for the cleaners!” We are here to absorb your stress, not add to it. The only thing that helps our team maximize your investment is a quick pickup of surface clutter—like toys, stray clothing, or loose papers. This simply clears the runway so we can spend 100% of our time and energy on deep, meticulous cleaning and restorative care for your surfaces.
What is your pet policy?
We absolutely love pets, and we want them to feel just as safe and comfortable as you do! During our initial consultation, we will chat about your furry family members to learn their names, their temperaments, and their favorite spots. All we ask is that if your pet gets nervous around vacuums or new faces, they are kept in a cozy, secure room or crate so our team can work safely and efficiently.
What happens if something isn't cleaned to my standards?
We stand behind our work with a 100% Art of Cleaning and Happiness guarantee. Human hands do this work, and if we ever fall short of the meticulous standard you expect, please let us know within 24 hours. We will return to your home promptly and fix the area completely free of charge, with a smile. Your total satisfaction and relief are the only metrics that matter to us.
Something has come up and we have to cancel. What is your cancellation policy?
We understand that plans change, people get sick, the unexpected happens…
Please also understand that to effectively schedule our crews throughout the entire metro area, a great deal of pre-planning and routing
must take place. While we will be as flexible and accommodating as possible for schedule changes, the following cancellation fees will
apply should you need to make a last-minute change to your confirmed appointment:
Crew arrives & cannot access = Full charge
Less than 24-hour notice = 50% charge
More than 24-hour notice = No charge
